Native American Libraries Established with Title VI Funding
Geary Public Schools used Title VI funding to establish a new Native American section in the Libraries of both the Elementary and Middle/High School. The Native American Libraries include over 650 new books and electronic books (E-books) for students to check out for pleasure reading or research. New book displays were purchased, including double-sided book island displays for both schools, and additional shelving to hold the new collection. With the new shelving, we were able to consolidate our older Native American books with the new book purchases. Funding was also used for acrylic book displays to highlight some of the new books, and processing supplies for covering books and stickers to designate books purchased with the new funds. Monies were also used for virtual author visits with students. Choctaw author and storyteller, Tim Tingle, entertained and motivated students at the Elementary School. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo spoke to English classes studying her poetry at Geary High School. To view a slide show on the new Native American Library, click on the link below.
