Funeral Held for Longtime School Employee and Supporter
Funeral services for Mary Anne Lawson were held Saturday, April 5, at the First United Methodist Church of Geary. Mrs. Lawson was a long-time employee of the Geary Public Schools and a supporter of school groups such as the Bison Boosters, 4-H, FFA, and Vo-Ag programs. She began her career as a bus driver for the school and transported students to school and out-of-town activities for 35 years. For the next 10 years Mary Anne worked as the high school library aide up to her retirement at the age of 80. Just before retiring she served as the interim band director. She was a gifted pianist, and it became a tradition for her to play for Geary High School graduations. She also played for hundreds of weddings and funerals over the years. Mary Anne was born May 11, 1940, in Geary, to Glenn Homer and Loretta Marie (Schaller) Moore. She graduated from Geary High School in 1958, and then married James Lawson. They raised six children on the family farm, south of Geary. She loved to sew, garden, work outside, and tend to her fruit trees. She spent countless hours cooking and canning all her bounty. She attended most of her children and grandchildren's activities. Mary Anne was named Honorary Blaine County Farmer of the year in 2007. She received many awards from school organizations, such as SkillsUSA, FFA, and Bison Boosters, for her participation and support. For many years, the Lawsons hosted wrestling teams in their home during the Geary Wrestling Tournament. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
