Fire Marshal Determines Accident Cause of HS Fire
The investigation of the March 23 Geary High School fire has been completed. In the recently-released report, the State Fire Marshal's office concludes the cause of the fire was accidental. The report states the origin of the fire was in the northeast corner of the Old Gymnasium in the vicinity of a heater. The Old Gym was built in 1938 and survived a fire that burned down the main high school campus in 1967. Unfortunately, this time the fire began in the Old Gym and spread to the high school, causing the loss of classrooms, offices, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in furniture, books, technology, science equipment, supplies, etc. Even more serious is the disruption of school for students who are in their 4th 9 weeks of school and are preparing for state testing.
