Geary Tournament Hall of Fame Inductees
Three former Geary Tournament champions and a local citizen who earned recognition for her service to the Tournament were inducted into the Geary Invitational "Bob Stegall Memorial" Hall of Fame during the Geary Invitational Tournament. They were presented with Bison statues by Tournament Director Randall Base. The new Hall of Fame members are Bob Peck, Inez Brack, Nick Williams, and Wayne Wells. Bob Peck, a 1959 graduate of Geary High School, was a Geary Tournament champion and placer as well as a State Tournament Runner-up two years in a row. He had a successful wrestling career at OU and was a member of the national championship team in 1963. Inez Brack has worked at the Geary Tournament since 1969, doing custodial work, cooking, working in the hospitality room, and even in the concession stand. She has also hosted wrestling teams in her home during tournaments. Nick Williams, a 1990 Geary High graduate, was a State Tournament champion in 1990 as well as a Geary Tournament and State Tournament placer. During his 20 years of coaching at the high school level, his teams and athletes have won 14 District titles, two State Tournament runner up finishes, and a top four finish at the State Tournament seven times. He has coached 20 State Tournament champions and 34 State placers. Wayne Wells was a Geary Tournament and State Tournament champion two years in a row. He went on to a successful career at OU where he was a three times Big Eight champion from 1966-68 and a National Champion in 1968. In 1972, he was named team captain of the U.S. Olympic Freestyle team and won the gold medal at 163 pounds. Wells was the first American to win the U.S. Federation Championship, U.S. Amateur Wrestling Foundation's National Championship, and the World Championship at 163 pounds in the same year. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1982.
