Poet Laureate Visits 9th Grade English Class
National Poet Laureate Joy Harjo had a virtual author visit with 9th grade English classes recently. Students had been reading Ms. Harjo's poetry in advance of her virtual author visit. Ms. Harjo read some of her poems and answered student questions on a variety of topics. Ms. Harjo, who lives in Tulsa, was named the 23rd Poet Laureate by the Library of Congress and is the first Native American to achieve this honor. She has written 10 books of poetry and two memoirs of her life growing up. Her virtual visit was made possible by Title VI funding.
