Hall of Fame Inductees 77th Geary Tournament
Three former wrestlers and coaches, George Walker, Kendell Cross and Butch Jacobsen, were inducted into the Geary Invitational Wrestling Hall of Fame prior to the Finals of the 77th Tournament. The family of the late George Walker was present to accept his statue. Mr. Walker wrestled for Geary High School and later became a teacher and wrestling coach at Geary and then Ponca City. He officiated for over 35 years on the high school and collegiate levels. The Gregarian Wrestling Award is given each year at the Geary Tournament in his name. Mr. Kendell Cross was a 3-time Geary Tournament champion in the 1980's. He wrestled at Oklahoma State University and became a 3-time All American and a NCAA champion. After College he was on the 1992 Olympic team in Barcelona and four years later won Gold in Atlanta. William E. "Butch" Jacobsen was a longtime wrestling official and coach. He coached wrestling in Geary and in 1979 led the Bison to their first-ever state championship. He was named Class A Coach of the Year. Mr. Jacobsen coached 28 State champion during his career.
