W.W. Jacobs' short story horror tale about the tragic results of a couple's wish inspired students to create their own wishing objects. Students worked in pairs or groups of three and created an object that came with its own rules for making wishes and rules for the wishes themselves. In addition, students also invented a background story for their object. An expository essay was written for the object.
